Rules, scoring, controls, and fairness

Exact rules. This is two-player standard Gin Rummy to 100 points. Each gets 10 cards. Sets are 3 or 4 equal ranks; runs are 3 or more consecutive cards of one suit. Aces are low only. Draw one, then discard one. You cannot immediately return a discard you just took.

Opening and stock. The non-dealer may take the first upcard or pass; then the dealer may take it or pass. If both pass, the non-dealer draws from stock. Dealer alternates each hand. When only two stock cards remain after a discard, the hand is drawn with no score.

Scoring. Knock after discarding with 10 or less deadwood. The defender lays off optimally on the knocker's melds. A successful knock scores the deadwood difference. Gin scores the opponent's deadwood plus 25 and allows no layoffs. A tie or lower defender total is an undercut worth 25 plus the difference.

Controls. Click or tap a pile to draw. Select a card, then choose Discard or Knock. Drag a card onto another card to reorder, or onto the discard pile to discard normally. With a focused card, Left and Right reorder it; Enter or Space selects it. Escape cancels selection or drag. Undo Order changes only your visible ordering because revealed card actions cannot honestly be undone.

Computer and hint. Mina is a disclosed local computer opponent. She evaluates melds, deadwood, expected unknown draws, and cards you visibly took, without reading your hidden hand. Hint identifies a legal draw, pass, discard, knock, or gin but never moves for you.

Fair deal. A fresh 52-card deck is shuffled in this browser with rejection-sampled crypto.getRandomValues and unbiased Fisher-Yates. There are no jokers, remote game calls, accounts, stakes, or purchases.
